29TH. JULY 2011 LAKROR FESTIVAL, MALTA VOLUNTEERS, ANNA.
On Saturday last, Korce had a Festival. This was to celebrate a local, traditional dish, called Lakror. It was made in great quantities, in the local park. This made a great show on the internet! We did not attend, due mainly to our roads being uprooted.
We had a great surprise on Sunday, when our little Church congregation was almost doubled. This was due to the arrival of about twelve Maltese volunteers. They were en route to do a project with Mother Teresa's Sisters in Shkodra. Two Sisters accompanied them, one a sister of the former Superior, when the Sisters lived here in Korce. There was also a Maltese priest with the group and he provided us with Mass.
On Tuesday, feast of St. Anne, I was in email contact with a number of Sisters, including Sister Anne O'Byrne, Belfast. In her response, Sister Anna Landy told me that she is off to Malawi next week, for a month's mission insertion there. Sister does this to utilize the cash, that has been mainly generated by the sale of her Cookery Books. She goes to a poor part of the country and plans "to provide water, food, maize grinding machines; roofing for about six family homes and school uniforms for 60 children." Also, Anna plans to set up a food kitchen, supplying cooking pots and so on! All in a month! Bon voyage, Anna, and God bless your great work.
No doubt, all of us aspire to sharing a little in today's feast of St. Martha. Here, Mirjam and Amira are busy preparing for Pogradec tomorrow and for their "end-of-term" excursion on Tuesday next.
Have a great weekend, and especially, celebrate Sunday - birthday of Mother Foundress!
